Amy Odom received her B.A. degree in 1988 from the University of North Carolina at Wilmington with a major in Communication Studies and a minor in Journalism. She continued her studies at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill where she received a M.S. degree in Speech Language Pathology in 1992. Whether working in public schools, hospitals, private clinics, or inclusive preschool settings, Amy has always made it her goal to get children talking, thinking, reading, and learning through multi-sensory strategies. As creator of the Signing Sam Learning Kit and author of the Signing Sam Picture Books series (Good Morning Critter Friends, Rudy the Rude Rooster, Greta the Grateful Goldfish), she has seen these goals come to fruition. She has conducted numerous language and literacy training workshops for NC’s Infant-Toddler Program, NC’s More At Four Pre-Kindergarten Program, Head Start Centers, SmartStart Partnerships, UNC-TV’s Ready To Learn Program, The International Reading Association’s 51st Annual Convention in Chicago, IL, and at the 2006 Arizona Department of Education’s Early Learning Conference. Amy is currently serving as a member of the Frank Porter Graham Child Development Institute’s Professional Development Committee as part of their national First School Initiative. She also provides speech and language services to the children at Woods Charter School in Chapel Hill, NC. and Chatham Charter School in Siler City, NC.
